The day before :
- There should be no alcohol consumption a day before getting your tattoo.
- Water intake should be as high as you can keep it.
- Give your body enough rest so that you have a lot of energy saved up for when you’re getting the tattoo done.
- Prepare everything you’ll be taking the night before only. Some of the essentials are : Money (to cover the cost of the tattoo + extra cash), water bottle, something to eat along the way and a friend!
- Confirm your appointment ahead of time, if you’re getting late or if you want an earlier appointment contact your artist at least 3 hours before the session.
- Make sure you carry your medical certificates in case you have a medical condition. Permission from the doctor and pre consultation from your artist is mandatory!
On the day of the tattoo :
- Make sure you have a water bottle and some light snacks. A batterbank in case you run low on battery and earplugs for the way! Wallet needs to be tucked in first.
- Make sure you’ve either emailed your reference or have a print of it with it.
- Make sure you wear something that doesn’t stick to the part where you want to get tattooed. It should be easily reachable. So a loose shirt or baggy pants can always be something you can wear.
- Eat a proper meal before heading to the studio, make sure your stomach is full!
- As we also mention in the form, anyone who’s under influence won’t be entertained. Make sure you’re not intoxicated before you get a tattoo as it can lead to excessive bleeding and other problems. If you’ve been prescribed a medicine or any drug, please consult your doctor and inform the artist beforehand.
- Make sure you carry your medical certificates in case you have a medical condition. Permission from the doctor and pre consultation from your artist is mandatory!
In case of any medical condition, please make sure you keep all of your prescriptions with you and an NOC from your doctor that you can be tattooed!
Things that you need to keep in mind while and after getting your tattoo :
- The time it takes to make a tattoo simply depends on the size of it, mostly.
- If your tattoo is a big one, you may have to sit for a long stretch of time with small breaks in between. Just make sure if you’re feeling uncomfortable at any point during the session, you inform your artist before moving. But you should also keep in mind that too many breaks can break the flow of the artist. There’s a saying “To gain something, you’ve got to lose something” so, a little discomfort won’t hurt if the outcome is something that you want!
- If you like chatting or having someone to talk to, do make sure you ask the artist if they’d want to have a conversation while sitting in the session beforehand, if not then you can always ask a friend to accompany you or the best way to go about it is to listen to your music!
- Pay attention to all the instructions that the artist gives you before and while the tattoo is being done.
- You’ll generally be given a break every hour or so if your tattoo is a big one so you don’t need to be worried about bathroom breaks or if you want to eat or smoke!
After
- Make sure you wait until the artist asks you to move after the tattoo is done. Don’t offer to pay while you’re still in the tattooing area. Wait until the artist calls you out to the front desk and then you can offer to pay.
- One question which is often asked is “Should I tip my artist?”. Yes, of course you can tip your artist. If you like their work and if you had a good experience, do tip your artist!
- Listen to the aftercare procedure very carefully as it can change from tattoo to tattoo. What you read on the internet might not always be the right aftercare for you. If you have any doubts you can ask the artist or contact us on instagram (@theMeesha Tattooindia).
- Ask your artist any doubts that you have and make sure to ask about touch ups as well. Many tattoos are done in areas where they can fade easily (Eg : Finger Tattoos). Usually The Meesha Tattoo Studio offers a free first touchup but do clear it out with your artist.
- Keep yourself hydrated, drink as much water as you can. We do suggest holding off any alcoholic drinks for the next few days and it can slow down the healing process very much.
